The MakeHuman Settings Tab

The settings tab contains the General, Background, Mouse, Shortcuts, User Plugins and Plugins subtabs. It is where you can alter the way the software functions on your computer.

Subtabs

General

Under the general subtab you are able to alter the slider behaviour, change between metric or imperial units of measure, alter the weight system between relative and real, change the way tags are filtered stipulate the maximum number of tags for models, change the way the program starts, change the display of the software from Native (light) and MakeHuman (dark) and select the interface language.

If you are having difficulty rendering try selecting the No Shaders and or the No sample Buffers in the start up dialogue on the left side of the screen. If you are using a 4K monitor you may find the software scales better activating the Use HDPI radial.

Background

The background subtab will allow you to use images behind your model or use an image as an aid to modelling the human form. To use an image it must first be available in the file chooser. The file chooser accesses the backgrounds folder nested in the MakeHuman folder. MakeHuman > v1py3 > backgrounds.

You want to have images in the background folder prior to accessing the background tab for them to appear in the file chooser. If you add an image while in the background tab simply click to another tab and then back again and the image will be available in the file chooser.

You will notice a side menu on the left of the screen. Selecting a particular side will move the camera to that position and allow you to select the desired image to be visible from that viewing angle. The "Other" radial is where you can activate an image to be visible when you have free roamed the camera.

In the background settings menu you can alter the opacity of the images you are using. These are global settings and will equally effect all angles. There is a move and resize radial below the opacity slider. with this radial selected you can move the image while depressing the left mouse button and resize it while depressing the right mouse button. Finally there is a show in foreground radial. This will move the background to the foreground, you can then adjust opacity to see your model behind the image. This is helpful when creating a model based on an image.

Mouse

The mouse subtab allows you to alter the speed at which rotation occurs in the viewport. The default works fine for me but who knows maybe you need to work at blistering speed and need to be able to zoom around your model a million times a second. You can also choose to invert the mouse wheel if you so desire.

Shortcuts

In the shortcuts tab you can see the default shortcut keys and change them should you desire to do so. To alter a shortcut click on it with the left mouse button and then select a new quick key. You can always restore defaults.

I do not have a strong understanding of the plugins section of the software so can not offer any advice. If you are interested in plugins I would suggest reading here.
